Systems Engineer - Detection and Tracking
About Nordic Air Defence
Nordic Air Defence is a hardware-software company building Counter-UAS technology for both commercial and defence customers. We build high-speed kinetic drone interceptors, at low cost and at scale. Our technology protects people and assets. We are a world-class team from Acast, Zipline, Palantir, McKinsey, Kratos, Katla Aero, SAAB, Codon AI, Quantum-Systems, FOI, FMV and other Swedish national security agencies.
The Role
Nordic Air Defence is searching for a person with deep domain expertise in the area of projectile detection and tracking for anti-air, anti-missile, or anti-drone systems. You will ensure that our K100 kinetic drone interceptor has the best possible target coordinates before launch. You will collaborate closely with 3rd party sensor and software providers, as well as with NAD’s internal autopilot and embedded systems teams.
Responsibilities
- Integrate drone detection and tracking sensor stations seamlessly into the K100 ecosystem.
- Develop integration code between third-party systems and the K100 to enable transmission of target coordinates, velocity, and other essential data.
- Help select appropriate sensor systems based on customer needs - whether targeting small FPV drones or larger ISR/OWA drones.
- Source and test third-party sensors for K100 integration.
- Travel domestically and internationally to support field testing, customer integration, and product demonstrations.
Requirements (Required)
- Deep domain expertise about projectile detection and tracking for anti-air, anti-missile, or anti-drone systems.
- Ability to write maintainable code integrations with third-party sensor APIs for sensors such as RADAR, passive RF, EO, IR, and LIDAR.
- Experience with MQTT or similar for integration with third-party sensor platforms.
- Hands-on experience with sensor fusion techniques such as Kalman filtering.
- Knowledge of the typical benefits and drawbacks of different sensor configurations in relation to drone detection and tracking.
- Familiarity with recent AI developments in computer vision for object tracking tasks.
- Field testing experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Requirements (Nice-to-have)
- Hands-on experience with RADAR or LIDAR specifically is considered a huge plus.
- Understanding of how to use typical video streaming technology such as gstreamer or ffmpeg.
- Expertise on the performance of state-of-the-art drone detection and tracking systems in real-war situations, such as Ukraine.
Disclaimer
Our interview process involves a security background screening because we work with some of the most important national security institutions in the world.
Ethics
Developing dual-use technology, that can be used in military contexts, requires deliberate and constant consideration of ethics. At Nordic Air Defence, ethics comes first in all engineering discussions we make. We consider our choice of customers carefully, and implement rigorous safeguards to ensure our technology is used as intended.
